Channels
Channel Nuts
Strut channels are manufactured by roll-forming strip steel into channel configurations. Channels are available in pre-galvanized, stainless steel 304 (S4), stainless steel 316 (S6), aluminum, hot-dipped, and powder coated .
Strut channel nuts are stamped from steel bar and heat treated after forming and tapping .
Material
Bar used to manufacture channel nuts meets ASTM A-1011SS Grade 33 .
Finish - Electro-Galvanized (EG)
ASTM B-633
EG is electroplating deposits of zinc on the surface of the steel by electrolysis from a bath of zinc salts. This coating is recommended for relatively dry, indoor use . The coating' thickness is typically 0 .2 mil – 0 .5 mil [5 .1μm – 12 .7 μm] .
Fittings
General
Strut fittings are made by punching and cold forming steel for specific channel connection applications. Typical fittings are 1⁄4" thick and 1-5⁄8" wide . Typical holes are 9⁄16" in diameter, 1-7⁄8" on center and 13⁄16" from ends
Material
Bar used to manufacture fittings meets ASTM A-569 or ASTM A-575.
Finishes
Uncoated Carbon Steel (PL)
None coated except for the possibility of oil left on the part during fabrication .
Electro-Galvanized (EG)
ASTM B-633
EG is electroplating deposits of zinc on the surface of the steel by electrolysis from a bath of zinc salts. This coating is recommended for relatively dry, indoor use . The coating thickness is typically 0 .2 mil – 0 .5 mil [5 .1μm – 12 .7 μm] .
Yellow Zinc Dichromate (YC)
ASTM B633 SC3, Type I
A 0 .5 mil [12 .7 μm] EG is applied to the surface of the metal (see EG) . Yellow dichromate is applied over the zinc. This results in a yellowish- gold colored appearance and creates a nonporous barrier sealant that is resistant to corrosion and can be painted .
Powder Coat (PC)
ASTM D-3363, ASTM D-2794M, ASTM D-523
Powder coating is a polyester powder finish applied using a electrostatic spray process and oven curing that gives the product a durable, high-quality appearance . The coating thickness is typically 1 .38 to 1 .77 mil [35-45 μm] . (Custom colors available upon request) .
Design
Design tables are based on AISI, the specification for design of cold-formed steel structural member .
Load Reduction
Reduce values in load tables for fabricated channels, using 90% of published values for short slots (EH) .
Length Options
Struts are stocked in standard 10 and 20 foot lengths with a ± 1/8” tolerance . Custom lengths are available upon request .
Welding
Channel combinations are spot welded . Weld spacing is 3" on center .
Materials & Finishes Pre-Galvanized (PG)
ASTM A-653 / A653M-09
Steel strip is coated with zinc by hot-dipped process prior to roll forming. The zinc weight coating is G90.
Powder Coat (PC)

Hot-Dipped Galvanized (HD)

Steel is dipped in molten zinc after fabricating and completely coated on all surfaces . Coating is generally recommended for outdoor use . Coating thickness is typically 2.6 mils [66.0 μm] or 1.5 oz. per square foot [0.46 kg per square meter] per side .

Aluminum
ASTM B-221, Type 6063-T6
Aluminum is extruded for aluminum channels . Fittings are made with 5052- H32 alloy . Aluminum products are suitable for corrosive environments .
Special Coatings
Other commercially available finishes can be supplied per specification when required to protect applications .
